Fall Tour - 2009

During the early part of October 2009, we took a fall tour of our mountains to look at the Autumn Leaves in Parley's Canyon and around the Park City Area.

Fall Tour - Autumn Leafs - 2009

Looking east at the mountains in Provo Canyon just south of Deer Creek Reservoir. The colors in Provo Canyon were as bright as any we saw on our road trip.

Park City - Fall 2009

As you can tell the colors this year are varied and vibrant. We really enjoy our Mountain Home.

Timpanogos 9-30-09

The first snow fall of the season was yesterday, September 30, 2009. There were 11"
of snow reported at Alta. I like this photo as it shows the contrasting snow and red autumn leafs as seen from our back yard in American Fork.

Iowa City, May 2009

We had the opportunity of traveling to Coralville, Iowa to participate in Shefton's Eagle Scout Court of Honor. This is a photo of his Eagle Scout Project. A full scale model of a pioneer handcart. This will be on display at the Institute of Religion University of Iowa.

We are proud of Shefton and his accomplishments in attaining the Eagle Scout Award along with 26 merit badges (21 are required for Eagle).

On Memorial Day Weekend we traveled to Galena, Illinois on the banks of the Mississippi River, where we enjoyed the atmosphere of a small town which was the home of Ulysses. S. Grant, 18th President of the United States.

Our trip included a visit to
Dyersville, Iowa, the home of Field of Dreams. Grandma is sitting on the bench waiting for "them to come". It was an enjoyable visit to a movie set.

The Great White Throne in Winter

Wednesday, February 18, 2009 Mom and I traveled to St. George to visit the '09 Parade of Homes, some of our former neighbors, and a trip to Zion's National Park. On Thursday, February 19, 2009 we visited some of the new homes in the Home Show and was impressed with some of the newer features in the homes. The interior decorators are going back to dark wood cabinets, doors, moldings, etc. Not sure that we like the new look. On Friday, February 20, 2009, we took our friends, Marge and Vaughn Jenkins, to Zion's National Park and had a very enjoyable time. The Great White Throne, shown here, is very beautiful with the winter snow on it. There was snow in a lot of the places along the road and trails leading up to the Narrows at the top of the canyon. Stopped and had dinner at Ted and Allen's Sports Grill in Hurricane. It was an enjoyable time for us to enjoy Southern Utah.

Salt Lake City Police K-9 - "Kip"

While serving as a police officer for the Salt Lake City Police Department I had the opportunity to be assigned to the K-9 Unit. My partner was Kip, a beautiful, male German Shepherd about 4 years old. He was able to live at home with us and became a trusted member of our family We worked the shift from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., five days a week. Our normal area we worked in was the downtown business area of Salt Lake City.

We became a real team and I always felt very secure in my duties as a police officer when I had Kip with me. He was always alert and ready for any situation we might run into. Other assignments included building searches, crowd control, assisting other officers when needed to effect an arrest of someone. I worked with Kip for three years and was then transfered to another assignment. Kip was assigned to another officer to continue his service with the K-9 Corp.

It iIs Now February 2009

It is now February and we are looking back on the snow storm we had in early January. We have been staying home, close to the fire, the past few weeks. The snow is finally melting and the weather is warming up. Fair skies today and tomorrow with more storm expected on Friday. We are enjoying our time of service at the Conference Center in Salt Lake on Tuesdays of each week. Had a group tour of 90 people yesterday. With a little preparation we were able to handle the group without a hitch.
