Reflections

I have been doing some reflecting on Christmas's past and felt like I should share some of my thoughts with each of you. The Christmas of 1960 is one that stands out in my memory bank. I was working as a Salt Lake City Police Officer assigned to the K-9 Corp with my faithful German Shepherd 'Kip".

We were living in a one bedroom basement apartment located at 2211 South 10th East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Your mother was pregnant with Alan and somewhat miserable. We had a small Christmas Tree in the living room which, by the way, took up most of the space. What makes this Christmas stand out in my mind is that 5 days after Christmas on December 30, 1960, we had gone to Sugarhouse to do some after Christmas Shopping. It was a beautiful sunny day and we enjoyed being outside.

Later that evening we made a nighttime run to the LDS Hospital as Mom had gone into labor We arrived at the hospital without too much time to spare as Alan was born within the hour after our arrival. After a few days at the hospital, Alan and his mother were able to return home to a clean house as I had taken the opportunity to put away all the Christmas decorations and make our little apartment ready for the arrival of our son. In February 1961 we moved into our home at 1476 East 4200 South where we lived until our move to Summer Hill Court on June 5, 1977
